Cost to convert any data file whether geographical information for mapping, patient demographics or medical treatment procedure charges used for a patient billing system is directly related to the total amount of programming and manual labor incurred. This is only one dimension of the cost.
Actually taking data which has been contained in one data format, transferring it into another data format still leaves the tedious and exacting task of shaping it to conform to another application's data file layouts.
It costs SafeMed over $140 per hour to maintain skilled programmers capable of unique extraction techniques for data manipulation ......
Consequently, it can cost from $500 to extract and transfer to another format only ...... up to $5,500 to custom form and shape an existing database into another application so that it functions appropriately with charge and payment details, patient and insurance demographics --- everything. In this case the system would be able to paper or electronically bill insurance and run patient statements from the historic data. It is then possible to "age" patient and insurance accounts within Medisoft from the legacy system's data. The entire historic patient record is available for report generation or statistics.
For $10,000 SafeMed has taken the data from over 30 separate systems, with over 30 physicians, all transactions, insurance (everything) -- over $3,000,000 in receivables (600 megabytes in size) -- and keeping everything separate (clinic and hospital satellite locations, each doctor, all transactions for each site, transaction doc, etc) and allowed immediate electronic billing within Medisoft (from one consolidated dataset).... allowing the client to collect over $1,500,000 in less than four months of operation within Medisoft.
